My Webcomic, Wasted Talent >> [link]

Hi Everyone!

This account is where I keep my fanart. My most recent project is my webcomic, Wasted Talent, which updates weekly in full colour!

I don't come to DA regularly, so please visit Wasted Talent.ca for the most recent ways to get in touch with me. Thanks for stopping by!

I live at my website.

Yeah just an update, I guess in 'reaction' to DA's new layout. Since they moved the website button somewhere less prominent I wanted to point it out here.

MY WEBSITE IS SPIKECOMIX.COM!

[link]

I have been updating there exclusively for many months now, so please go there if you want to see my art! You can contact me by email or at the forum that's there: [link]

I'm working on two webcomics, Wasted Talent [link] and Tangle [link]

I will no longer be updating here, but I'm not deleting the account so I can still do things like look at deviations (which I need to do to manage another art forum). I don't check notes, deviations or reply to messages here anymore, I don't have the time to mess with the system. But I still love and appreciate all your comments, so if you have them please stop by my website or drop me an email!

Tune in Here for Updates

Hay guys,

After some deliberation, I've decided what to do with this DA account. I'm keeping it for the purposes of communication only and keeping tabs on my artist friends. :)

I may update from time to time, but only with fanart (which is few and far between) because I can't trust DA with my original chars anymore. I thank you all for your gracious support, and if you wish to continue to view my art, you can visit my gallery at [link] (still has some code quirks, don't bug me) which is updated with *everything* and has its own commenting/rating system.

I'll update here for when that's updated, but it will be copied verbatim from my sketchblog [link]

You can still reach me here, of course, I am still watching comments and commenting

Don't forget to enter the contest guys! At this point you have 100% chance of winning XD

:bulletgreen:Site Updates!:bulletgreen:
I've had NO INTERNET over the last 10 days ;_____; AUGH!! Having no internet had one positive side effect: I managed to get some serious artin' done. Quite a few inks, but I'll only submit the colour stuff:::

I'll be selling prints of Digiko, Inu Yasha and Spike there (without the comicbook stuff) at AE [link] , I'll also be selling the originals of Digiko and InuYasha. I might make prints of Katamari Damacy, too, depends on the response I get. ^_^

the TANGLE Contest!

Sat Jul 2, 2005, 5:54 PM
This was supposed to start yesterday, oops. XD But yeah. This will be ho'ed out pretty much everywhere so I apologize if you see it repeatedly. I'm also going to start commenting here again, even though I'm not updating ^_^

The TANGLE Contest (July - Sept 1 2005)

The Basics:
I am holding a second Contest!! This contest will run
for TWO MONTHS: From July 1st to Sept. 1st! I was pleased with the outcome of the first one, plus I really want to hold a celebration for the new domain, the
new site, and a new title for my comic :) So this contest's theme is TANGLE. How you use the theme is entirely up to you, it can be
shown contextually, visually, literally, metaphorically, blatantly, subtly... it
doesn't matter to me, as long as I can tell how and where it's incorporated
(also, as long as I can tell it's about my chars)! For this contest you can draw
ANY of my characters from ANY series!! (at last!) You can also submit in any
medium, digital art, natural media, sculpey, written, music, flash... it doesn't
matter, as long as it's possible for me to see it clearly enough to evaluate it.

The Rules:
• Submissions must be created entirely within the timeframe of the contest and
must be submitted by September 1st at 11:59PM PST. Late submissions will NOT be
accepted and there will be no exceptions or extensions on this deadline.
• Entries MUST feature at least one of my characters and may only feature my
characters. No crossovers (your chars or other people's chars featured in the
entry.)
• I will allow multiple entries per person, but you MUST SELECT by the closing
date WHICH you want to be evaluated. (Quality not Quantity) If you do not notify
me which entry you would like judged, your first submission will be the one
evaluated.
• While creativity with these characters is allowed and encouraged, you must
still portray the essence of the character. For example: You can't portray
Harmony using huuuge psychic powers because she is handicapped in that
department. You can't show Condor in a skimpy red dress unless you illustrate
her covered in scars. etc etc. Creative use of the theme is definitely
encouraged, but I must be able to identify the theme in your submission. I will
still accept it if it needs to be pointed out to me, but if it's too abstract I
may remove points.
• I will post all of the entries on my site and I reserve the right to post
them in my 'guest art' gallery. You may post it in your personal gallery,
however, as is standard, you must provide a link to my site and a note that the
characters are (c)Spikecomix.
• Anyone can enter, regardless of skill level!
Entries may be submitted by email(spikecomix@gmail.com), devnote, PM (on
Snafu.com), or by post (request address), but if by post it MUST arrive in my
hands before the deadline if that is the only way it can be judged. Please
take care to do assure that it is sent early enough, your local post office
should have guidelines on how long various methods of shipping take to Canada
(Vancouver).

• This is kind of obvious.. but it must be YOUR WORK entered. No plagiarism,
traces, or other kinds of theft. Stolen entries will be disqualified.
Photomanips are permitted as long as the photographer is credited, it is
preferred that the photos used are stock. Art manips are unacceptable as contest
entries.
• Have fun!

Prizes!:
Each winner can select between either Art by me or a
Amazon.com gift certificates (online) as follows:

$35 Gift Certificate to Amazon.com!

These art prizes will be treated as a normal paying commissions [link]
and will be put on my queue as normal. Equivalent gift certificates to other
sites are negotiable, however it must work in roughly the same way as Amazon.com
gift certificates and accept Paypal or Credit.

Judging Procedure:
This contest will be judged by ME. I may enlist the help of other people
who are not entered, but the final descision will be made by me. The criteria
and approximate weights of criteria for judging are as follows:

Overall (30%)
Artistic Merit (20%)
Effort (20%)
Creativity (30%)
------------------
Total: (100%) of the score.

• Overall: This takes into consideration the final product, its appeal
compared to all of the other entries. Overall also takes into consideration how
"true to character" you were, either based on story, appearance, demeanor,
emotion, and situation.
• Artistic Merit: This involves skill in execution, be that drawing,
animation, sculpting... whatever the medium involves.
• Effort: The time and self-challenge you put into the piece based on
your skill level is evaluated.
• Creativity: This involves both creative use of the theme and overall
creativity in the creation/execution/presentation of your entry.

Character Information:

As stated in the rules, only my characters
may be present for your entry to be accepted (no copyrighted characters or your
original characters.), and at least one of my characters MUST be present.
Information on the characters you can draw can be found on this page
[link] . I will also accept
the caricatures from Wasted Talent [link] even
though they are real people and not technically characters :P

Trueness to character is something that is taken into consideration in the
Overall score, so please take care to not portray the character in a way that is
contradictory to them. Information on "no-nos" for that character can be found
in the "notes" section of their profile. There are also various stories
throughout the profiles and comics that can be used to give you a better feel
for the character. If you feel you need more information or story about how that
character would behave in a certain situation, please feel free to contact me
either by email or devnote.

If you feel you need more art reference for a particular character, email me
and I'll do my best to get at least a character design sheet up for you.

Other Information/Questions:
I will add to this if people ask me
questions. If you have a question, feel free to email me! (spikecomix@canadaka.net)

Please Enter! :D

This info is duplicated at [link] the Site and I'll keep all the entries on there :D (blah blah still doesn't work in fucking Firefox I'm working on it etc.)

There's also a WT Photocontest going on.

It's a KHAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaantest! XD

Just for fun ^x^

• Has Spike Died??

Sun Jun 12, 2005, 10:40 PM
No, no in fact I have not. Spike is, in fact, alive and well and productive.

But somewhat at a loss with what to do with this space.

It has become far far too much for me to keep up with. Not only that, but I just can't deal with DA's policies anymore. They are bordering on treacherous towards all the ideals the site should theorhetically stand for. And I can't support that.

But, I love all of you! I may upload only my "masterpieces" or something... or only update the journal and somehow get back to commenting about. I'm not sure.

What I *do* know, is that if you want to keep up with me, it is definitely possible. I have a brand new website: [link] (still buggy though) where you can find ALL my art, including TONS of more recent art. I keep it up to date. I also have my webcomic: [link] which is also being updated. ALSO! I have set up, as an alternative for people who want art "delivered" to them, a sketchblog on livejournal. [link] so if lj is your thing, you can friend me and comment there!

*waves to everyone and blows kisses!*
